Key information
The aim is to:

Provide you with information on Osteoarthritis so you can manage your condition better

Improve your general fitness

Improve your knee and hip movement

Improve your knee and hip strength
-
Improve your general wellbeing

Decrease your joint pain
The Programme is free of charge.
A physiotherapist will visit you at your home 5 times over a period of 3 months:

Your knee and/or hip movement & strength will be checked
-
You will be provided with information on your condition and how to best manage it
-
You will be provided with a home exercise programme
Are you eligible?
-
You have Osteoarthritis of the hip and/or knee, have been for an Orthopaedic assessment and have been told you are not eligible or severe enough to have joint replacement surgery
-
You have chosen not to have or unsuitable for joint replacement surgery
What happens after you sign up?

Upon receipt of your application, your GP will be notified and asked to verify the information you have provided to ensure you are eligible for the class.

You will be contacted by a physiotherapist to offer you an initial assessment in your home

Your GP will be provided with your final assessment details (after 5 sessions).
Osteoarthritis Pool Class
Key information
The aim is to:

Improve your general fitness

Improve your knee and hip movement

Improve your general wellbeing

Decrease your joint pain
The Programme is free of charge. Classes take place on Monday and Thursday afternoons at the Pakuranga Park Village Retirement Village pools. The class runs for 40 mins. You are eligible for 8 weeks of classes (16 sessions). You don’t need to be able to swim as you stand up and can hold onto the edge of the pool during the entire session.
Class content: a warm-up, cardiovascular conditioning, strengthening exercises, and stretches.
Expectations: You are expected to attend all sessions, unless pre-arranged with the physiotherapist prior to starting the programme or if you are unwell. If you are unable to attend 2 or more sessions due to reasons other than medical (for eg going on holiday) and no arrangement has been made, your place will be offered to the next person on the waiting list.
Are you eligible?

You have knee or hip (or both) Osteo Arthritis

You have no medical conditions preventing you from doing water-based exercises
What happens after you sign up?

Upon receipt of your application your GP will be notified and asked to verify the information you have provided to ensure you are eligible for the class.

You will be contacted by a physiotherapist to offer you an initial assessment and opportunity to join the pool class numbers permitting.

Your GP will be provided with your final assessment details (after 16 sessions).
